Dam Computational Modeling Technical Lead

Location: Denver, Colorado, United States; office and field-based responsibilities include structural inspections and assessments.

Salary: $129,899–$185,570 per year.

What you will do

• Lead structural analyses using linear and nonlinear finite element modeling, including advanced dynamic and seismic analysis.
• Design new and rehabilitated dams and hydraulic structures, including spillways, gates, outlet works, retaining walls, floodwalls, foundations, and water conveyance structures.
• Oversee contract documents, drawings, specifications, design criteria, reports, and cost estimates.
• Coordinate structural design with multidisciplinary teams and manage projects independently.
• Inspect existing and under-construction structures and prepare critical assessment and design documentation.
• Mentor project and junior staff, review calculations and design assumptions, and support growth of advanced structural engineering services.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and at least 10 years of structural engineering experience.
• Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the position location, such as a PE or P.Eng.
• Experience leading structural design projects, including analysis, reporting, drawing production, calculations, and layouts.
• Knowledge of structural, seismic, inspection, remediation, construction, gravity analysis, and lateral analysis.
• Experience designing and detailing steel, concrete, masonry, and wood structures.
• Experience with finite element modeling and analytical software such as SAP2000, ANSYS, Abaqus, LS-Dyna, ADINA, AutoCAD, RAM, ETABS, or SAFE.

Nice to have

• Programming experience with Python, MATLAB, or similar tools.
• Experience with machine learning and data- or AI-enabled safety assessment.
• Structural Engineer (SE) license.
• PhD in a relevant field.
