Broadcast Maintenance Engineer (Broadcast Systems/IT): Maintaining and troubleshooting broadcast, IT, networking, automation, newsroom, studio, and streaming systems in a live media facility with an accent on on-air reliability, signal flow, and system integration. Focus on diagnosing complex broadcast and data-flow issues, supporting remote feeds and streaming workflows, and commissioning technical systems in a 24/7 production environment.
Location: Chicago, Illinois, United States; onsite at 2501 W. Bradley Place (WGN-TV). Full-time shift work may include nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
Salary: $27.87–$46.68 per hour, based on experience and skill level.

What you will do
- Maintain and troubleshoot broadcast and IT systems across studios, control rooms, master control, newsroom, cameras, audio equipment, and streaming encoders.
- Configure and troubleshoot LAN, VLAN, WAN, and VPN networking for servers and broadcast equipment.
- Diagnose signal-flow and data-flow issues using schematics, system drawings, network tools, and test equipment.
- Support Dejero, TVU, and Haivision remote-feed technologies and streaming workflows.
- Support studio operations in a live production environment and deliver technical solutions with production and operations teams.
- Manage projects, design systems, and assist with system integration and commissioning.
Requirements
- Five years of experience as an IT technician or maintenance engineer in a media facility is desired.
- Strong knowledge of IP networking, Active Directory, and Windows/Linux platforms.
- Experience with broadcast production systems, audio consoles, intercoms, video switchers, wireless audio, and test and measurement equipment.
- Understanding of video compression, resolutions such as 1080i, bandwidth requirements, and technical signal-flow diagrams.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and use common business software applications.
- Membership in IBEW 1220 is required.
Nice to have
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline.
- Familiarity with Ross Xpression/Tessera, LED videowalls, Dante audio, and satellite transmission.
