Senior Staff Engineer, Compiler (AI)

Location: Kodaira, Japan; hybrid model with two remote-work days per week and office attendance Tuesday through Thursday

What you will do

• Lead AI compiler architecture across model ingestion, graph optimization, lowering, code generation, and runtime integration.
• Design graph-level optimizations including operator fusion, quantization-aware rewrites, memory-aware scheduling, and partitioning.
• Optimize performance for target NPUs through tiling, tensor layout, and multi-core execution strategies.
• Collaborate with SoC and AI accelerator architects to influence hardware features through compiler insights.
• Own performance KPIs for automotive AI workloads using simulators, profilers, and silicon-correlated models.
• Mentor senior engineers and set technical direction without direct people-management responsibilities.

Requirements

• MS, PhD, or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Deep experience building AI compilers, accelerator backends, or graph optimization frameworks.
• Strong expertise in graph and performance optimization for NPUs or custom accelerators.
• Experience with MLIR, LLVM, TVM-like systems, or proprietary compiler intermediate representations.
• Excellent C/C++ and Python skills, with a solid understanding of AI inference workloads including CNNs, transformers, perception, or generative models.
• Strong communication skills and experience with agile development in a Scrum team.

Nice to have

• Experience with automotive or safety-critical systems.
• Background in heterogeneous SoCs containing CPUs, GPUs, DSPs, and NPUs.
• Performance modeling or hardware-software co-design experience.
