Staff Archeologist

Location: Metairie or Baton Rouge, Louisiana, United States; approximately 80% travel required

What you will do

• Conduct archaeological surveys, Phase II site testing, and Phase III data recovery.
• Excavate shovel test pits and test units; identify and analyze features and artifacts.
• Document archaeological sites through site forms, photography, and GPS mapping.
• Supervise archaeological field technicians and support field study planning.
• Contribute to artifact processing, analysis, curation, and technical reports.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on projects across the South Central region and nationally.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Architectural History, or a closely related field.
• At least one year of cultural resource management experience and familiarity with field study design, documentation, and regulatory requirements.
• Experience with GIS utilities and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong writing, communication, organizational, and independent-working skills.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a vehicle during day or night.
• Ability to work in rugged terrain, remote locations, adverse weather conditions, and physically demanding field environments; approximately 80% travel is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with historic artifact, lithic, bioarchaeological, zooarchaeological, geoarchaeological, GPR/magnetometer, or ceramic analysis.
• Experience identifying and recording pre-contact and post-contact resources.
