TL;DR
Project Archaeologist (Cultural Resource Management): Managing archaeological field investigations, documenting cultural resources, and producing technical reports for NRHP and NEPA compliance with an accent on field survey design, artifact analysis, GIS utilities, and regulatory documentation. Focus on supervising field crews, coordinating multidisciplinary CRM projects across the South Central region, and conducting physically demanding fieldwork in varied environmental conditions.
Location: Metairie or Baton Rouge, Louisiana, United States. Approximately 80% travel required, including fieldwork in rugged, remote, and variable weather conditions. Work hours may include weekends and night shifts.

What you will do
- Manage archaeological surveys and site documentation, including feature and artifact identification, shovel test pits, photography, descriptions, analyses, and mapping.
- Supervise archaeological field technicians and crew chiefs in field and office settings.
- Plan, staff, and execute cultural resource management projects with multidisciplinary teams across the South Central region and nationally.
- Produce professional-quality reports supporting NRHP and NEPA compliance.
- Identify and document pre-contact and post-contact cultural resources.
- Perform additional project and field duties as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Architectural History, or a closely related field.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with GIS utilities.
- Knowledge of archaeological field study design, documentation, and the regulatory framework for cultural resource management.
- Strong writing, communication, organization, and self-management skills.
- Valid driver's license and ability to operate a vehicle during day or night.
- Ability to hike in native vegetation, lift up to 25 pounds, and work independently in adverse environmental conditions.
Nice to have
- Graduate degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field.
- At least one year of experience managing junior staff during fieldwork and report preparation.
- Experience in artifact, lithic, bioarchaeological, zooarchaeological, geoarchaeological, GPR/magnetometer, or ceramic analysis.
- Writing sample and verifiable professional references.
- Experience with Microsoft Project.
