Machine Learning Engineer Graduate (Risk & Integrity) - 2027 Start (PhD)

Location: San Jose, United States; fully in-person up to 5 days per week

Salary: $136,800–$259,200 annually, with potential additional bonuses, incentives, and restricted stock units.

What you will do

• Design algorithmic governance and integrity solutions for account integrity, incentive abuse, content safety, and financial risk.
• Build high-precision risk representation models using video, livestream, audio, behavioral sequence, and social graph data.
• Research adversarial threats, including automated attacks and harmful AIGC, and develop self-evolving defense systems.
• Integrate generative AI, LLMs, and multimodal technologies into risk detection, adjudication, and enforcement workflows.
• Develop scalable machine learning infrastructure for TikTok and related platforms.

Requirements

• Completing or recently completed a PhD in computer science, engineering, mathematics, statistics, or a related discipline.
• Strong foundation in machine learning, including Transformer and GNN architectures.
• Proficiency in at least one of Python, C++, or Go.
• Familiarity with distributed computing such as Spark or Flink and deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch.
• Ability to evaluate models against both technical performance and product goals and communicate effectively in a global, cross-cultural environment.
• Ability to commit to an onboarding date by the end of 2027; graduation date and availability must be stated on the resume.

Nice to have

• Experience building LLM-based agents with task planning, tool use, or autonomous decision-making.
• Experience with LLM post-training or fine-tuning, including SFT, RLVR, or RLHF.
• Experience in video understanding, multimodal representation, or combining visual, audio, and textual features.
• Experience in integrity, anti-abuse, safety, or trustworthy AI at a large-scale internet platform.
