TL;DR
Finance Director (Music): Leading country-level finance for Sony Music Malaysia, including FP&A, commercial deal evaluation, financial reporting, governance, and compliance with an accent on strategic business partnering, artist investments, and licensing and distribution agreements. Focus on building financial models and business cases, managing IFRS-based finance operations, and strengthening controls, risk management, and operational efficiency.
Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; office-based role.

What you will do
- Act as the strategic finance business partner to the Country General Manager, Regional Managing Director, and cross-functional leadership.
- Lead country budgeting, forecasting, FP&A, financial modelling, business cases, management reporting, and performance analysis.
- Evaluate artist signings, licensing, royalty, publishing, distribution, investment, and other commercial transactions.
- Oversee accounting, treasury, cash flow, payroll, royalty processing, financial close, and statutory financial reporting.
- Maintain governance, internal controls, tax and audit compliance, risk management, and financial data quality.
- Drive cost optimisation, process improvements, automation, and operational excellence in partnership with regional finance and shared services.
Requirements
- 10–15 years of progressive experience across commercial finance, FP&A, financial control, and business partnering.
- Experience leading finance for an in-country business within a medium-sized or large multinational organisation.
- Strong expertise in budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling, business case development, performance reporting, and commercial decision support.
- Experience leading finance operations, governance, internal controls, process improvement, and high-performing teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business, or a related discipline.
- Fluent English and Malay are required. Professional accounting qualifications such as CPA, CA, ACCA, or equivalent are preferred.
Nice to have
- MBA in Finance or Accounting.
- Experience in media, entertainment, consumer, or another fast-paced industry.
- Knowledge of IFRS, tax, statutory compliance, ERP systems, and advanced financial analysis tools.
- Experience supporting M&A, due diligence, valuation, or post-investment performance monitoring.
