Software Engineer, AI Data Application – USDS

Location: San Jose R&D; fully in-person schedule up to 5 days a week

Salary: $136,800–$359,720 annually, with potential additional bonuses, incentives, and restricted stock units.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain reliable, maintainable, and high-performance backend services and internal platform components.
• Develop data services, workflow orchestration, model integrations, and intelligent automation for AI-powered internal products.
• Build reusable APIs, backend components, and self-service tools that reduce manual work and improve data accessibility.
• Apply best practices in service architecture, API design, observability, testing, and operational excellence.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, data, software, fullstack, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into backend solutions.

Requirements

• BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 3+ years of software development experience building and maintaining backend systems or platform services in production.
• Proficiency in Python, Go, Java, or Node.js, with experience building APIs, services, and integrations.
• Working knowledge of databases, caching, messaging systems, and cloud-native infrastructure.
• Ability to contribute to scalable, resilient, and operationally efficient systems.

Nice to have

• Experience integrating LLM APIs, RAG pipelines, model-serving infrastructure, or agentic workflows into backend systems.
• Experience with internal platforms, service frameworks, workflow engines, developer tools, or data infrastructure.
• Strength in system design and technical discussions involving performance, complexity, and developer experience.
