TL;DR
Senior Software Engineer, Software Defined Networking (Go/C): Building private networks, load balancing, and firewalls across an in-house SDN dataplane and distributed control plane with an accent on packet processing, state correctness, and performance. Focus on designing end-to-end networking features, reconciling network state across the fleet, and operating reliable systems from hardware through customer-facing APIs.
Location: Hybrid in Helsinki, with three days per week in the office

What you will do
- Design and implement networking features end to end, from packet paths to customer-facing APIs.
- Build and extend the C-based dataplane close to the underlying hardware.
- Design and operate the Go-based distributed control plane, including network state storage, reconciliation, and fleet-wide application.
- Turn prototypes into products with limits, quotas, and customer documentation.
- Monitor and improve performance while debugging issues across hardware, dataplane, and control plane.
- Own operational capabilities including metrics, alerting, upgrades, and rollback, and collaborate on hardware specifications and network design.
Requirements
- Strong Go skills, or systems programming experience in another language with the ability to transition to Go.
- Production experience writing performance-sensitive systems software in a low-level language.
- Experience with distributed systems where state correctness is critical.
- 6+ years of experience building and operating production systems software.
- Solid understanding of cloud networking primitives, including VPCs, load balancers, and firewalls.
- Ability to own systems end to end, including their operational aspects.
Nice to have
- Experience with DPDK, DOCA, XDP, eBPF, or vendor SDKs for high-performance packet processing.
- Experience with DPU or SmartNIC platforms, offload models, or BlueField.
- Knowledge of Linux networking and virtualization, including netdev, tc, nftables, namespaces, and SR-IOV.
- Contributions to the kernel, DPDK, or other open-source networking projects.
