Director, Embedded Systems Engineering (Power Electronics): Leading the design, development, testing, validation, and documentation of complex firmware and software for high-voltage power supplies with an accent on power conversion, power management, digital controls, and embedded systems leadership. Focus on managing a team of seven engineers, developing RTOS and bare-metal firmware, overseeing product design and release processes, and delivering reliable products within budget.
Location: On-site at Spellman High Voltage headquarters in Hauppauge, New York, United States. Relocation assistance is available. Approximately 10% domestic and international travel is required.
Salary: $200,000–$275,000 per year, plus a full benefits package.

What you will do
- Lead day-to-day activities and provide technical direction for a team of seven embedded systems engineers.
- Oversee the design, development, implementation, testing, validation, and documentation of firmware and software for high-voltage power supplies.
- Plan development projects, manage workloads and priorities, assess risks, and ensure timely execution within budget.
- Direct product design reviews, design changes, technical specifications, and software/firmware releases.
- Collaborate with global engineering, sales and marketing, operations, quality, supply chain, and customers on product requirements and delivery.
- Develop embedded systems strategies and technology roadmaps while driving performance, quality, reliability, and cost improvements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering; a master’s degree is preferred.
- 15+ years of hands-on product and technology development experience in power conversion, power management, or power electronics.
- 7+ years of experience leading an engineering team in a global company, ideally in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of power electronics, analog circuit design, magnetic design, digital controls, RTOS, and bare-metal firmware.
- Experience with firmware and software technologies including C, Verilog, VHDL, Assembly, C#, VB6, Java, and WPF.
- Excellent project management, leadership, coaching, customer collaboration, and engineering design and analysis skills.
Nice to have
- Experience with high-voltage X-ray power conversion technology.
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Experience with DSPs, MCUs, FPGAs, CPLDs, and SOMs.
