TL;DR
HSD/HSE Instructor - Treasure Island (GED/TABE Education): Delivering instruction for GED preparation, TABE reading and math preparation, high school diploma programs, social skills, employability skills, and applied academics with an accent on competency-based instruction, classroom management, and student engagement. Focus on planning lessons, monitoring reading and TABE gains, documenting student progress, and providing accommodations in a structured Job Corps learning environment.

Location: Treasure Island, California, United States; onsite, full-time

Salary: USD 74,052.94–82,765.05 per year

What you will do

  • Deliver instruction for GED preparation, TABE reading and math preparation, and high school diploma programs.
  • Teach social skills, employability skills, applied academics, and project-based learning.
  • Plan relevant lessons and use competency-based, computer-assisted, and cooperative learning techniques.
  • Manage the classroom, maintain attendance records, engage trainees, and support student retention.
  • Evaluate and document student progress, reading gains, TABE achievements, and case notes in CIS.
  • Participate in team, departmental, and staff meetings; complete reports, training, drills, and required administrative duties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.
  • Teaching certification in the state where the center is located is required; certification may be waived temporarily if necessary, but certification must then be pursued.
  • Ability to read and interpret professional, technical, and government materials and prepare reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to present information effectively and respond to questions from students, peers, managers, and the public.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts, including probability, statistics, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, and Excel.
