Lead Software Engineer (GCP)

Location: USA-WI-Corporate Headquarters; full-time onsite role

What you will do

• Lead technical direction for a critical application area through hands-on design and implementation.
• Assess legacy systems, manage technical debt, and define modernization approaches including stabilization, refactoring, re-platforming, and rebuilding.
• Design scalable systems and APIs with clear service boundaries, integration patterns, resiliency, observability, and secure configuration.
• Improve code reviews, testing strategies, dependency management, CI/CD reliability, release processes, and environment consistency.
• Lead production troubleshooting, root cause analysis, service health monitoring, and corrective actions.
• Promote responsible AI-assisted engineering and mentor engineers while aligning technical decisions with product priorities.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience delivering production systems.
• Demonstrated experience stabilizing, refactoring, modernizing, or migrating legacy systems.
• Strong system design skills covering APIs, modular design, service boundaries, and resiliency patterns.
• Familiarity with CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and debugging complex systems.
• Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools with attention to validation, security, confidentiality, and code quality.
• Strong collaboration, facilitation, stakeholder communication, and mentoring skills; no direct reports.

Nice to have

• Experience with cloud-native architectures, preferably GCP, and distributed systems.
• Experience with event-driven systems and messaging.
• Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience defining engineering standards and mentoring engineers.
