PhD Scholarships: Machine Vision (AI)

Location: Brisbane South (Nathan) campus, Australia; primarily campus-based, with possible work across other hirify.global locations

Scholarship stipend: AUD 35,656 per year, indexed, for up to three years of full-time study

What you will do

• Conduct fundamental research into machine vision and deep visual understanding of natural objects and environments.
• Develop novel deep learning methods for representation learning and visual recognition.
• Research vision-language reasoning, fine-grained and ultra-fine-grained visual categorization, and multimodal machine learning.
• Develop trustworthy artificial intelligence systems and data-driven models.
• Publish high-quality research papers in leading computer vision and machine learning conferences and journals.
• Collaborate with research fellows, PhD students, industry partners, and international research communities.

Requirements

• Completed Bachelor’s degree with first-class honours equivalent, or a Master’s degree with a significant research component, or an equivalent level of attainment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, a solid mathematical foundation, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Demonstrated passion for computer vision and image processing.
• Domestic and international applicants are welcome; international applicants must meet the program’s English language proficiency requirements.
• For international applicants, accepted evidence includes IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, TOEFL iBT 79 with no sub-score below 19, or equivalent approved test scores.

Nice to have

• Academic qualifications in computer science, engineering, or applied mathematics.
• Experience in deep learning, visual recognition, multimodal AI, pattern recognition, or data-driven modelling.
• Publications in top-tier venues such as CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, NeurIPS, AAAI, or IJCAI.
