Focus on validating PV yield and BESS dispatch models, reviewing EPC designs, and overseeing construction, FAT, SAT, commissioning, and 95% availability verification.

Location: Nairobi, Kenya; on-site work required during construction, testing, and commissioning phases

What you will do

  • Act as the asset owner’s independent technical representative across design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and performance verification.
  • Review solar resource, topographical, geotechnical, hydrological, grid interconnection, and power system studies supporting project bankability.
  • Validate utility-scale PV plant designs, PVsyst and other energy-yield models, loss and degradation assumptions, curtailment, availability, and P50/P90 estimates.
  • Assess BESS sizing, charge and discharge strategies, state-of-charge management, EMS and SCADA control logic, and firm hourly power delivery capability.
  • Review EPC engineering deliverables, contractual performance guarantees, IEC and IEEE compliance, grid-code compliance, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee construction quality, FAT, SAT, commissioning, grid energization, performance testing, and operational readiness for 20–200 MW solar PV and BESS projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 10–15 years of experience in renewable energy engineering, including solar PV and battery storage systems.
  • Experience as an Owner’s Engineer, Independent Engineer, Lender’s Engineer, or Technical Advisor on large infrastructure projects.
  • Participation in at least three utility-scale solar PV projects exceeding 30 MW, including at least one project exceeding 100 MW.
  • Strong knowledge of grid interconnection, power system integration, solar resource assessment, PV yield modelling, BESS sizing and dispatch modelling, and EMS integration.
  • Willingness and ability to work on-site during construction, testing, and commissioning phases.

Nice to have

  • Professional engineering registration.
  • Experience with PV+BESS hybrid systems and integration of solar PV, diesel generators, and BESS through an EMS.
  • Experience with cross-border or emerging-market projects and remote or logistically challenging environments.
