TL;DR
Software Engineer (Python) (Genomics/Healthcare): Building scalable backend services, REST APIs, and cloud-native applications on AWS for genomic testing, clinical decision-making, and national-scale research with an accent on microservices, relational databases, identity management, and secure platform engineering. Focus on designing reliable services, integrating authentication providers, automating testing, and leading feature development across the team.
Location: London, United Kingdom; blended working with office attendance expected at least twice each month. Office locations include Cambridge, Leeds, and London.
Salary from £71,400 per year.

What you will do
- Design, develop, and own scalable backend software in Python.
- Build and maintain reliable microservices and cloud-native applications hosted on AWS.
- Design, develop, and maintain REST APIs for internal and external integrations.
- Work with relational databases, SQL, and AWS RDS.
- Integrate identity and access management solutions, including Okta and other identity providers.
- Collaborate with frontend developers, QA, platform engineers, and third-party suppliers while leading feature development across the team.
Requirements
- Demonstrable experience delivering and owning backend software.
- Expertise in Python and scalable software development.
- Experience with AWS, microservice architectures, and IAM.
- Experience with relational databases, SQL, REST APIs, and identity management or authentication platforms.
- Familiarity with agile methodologies and test-driven development.
- BSc in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
Nice to have
- Experience with Amazon API Gateway, DynamoDB, and Lambda.
- Experience with test automation frameworks.
- React or JavaScript frontend knowledge, or willingness to learn.
- Experience mentoring or coaching junior team members.
- Strong understanding of code review best practices.
