SPED Instructional Assistant

Location: Delano, California, USA; onsite classroom-based role

Compensation: $20.80–$28.20 per hour, depending on skills and experience.

Wonderful College Prep Academy is a free public charter network serving students in California’s Central Valley through TK–12 schools in Lost Hills and Delano.

What you will do

• Support lead teachers with classroom learning, 1:1 instruction, small-group instruction, interventions, and social activities.
• Assist students with academic, behavioral, medical, and personal-care needs, including first aid, prescribed medication, toileting, and diapering when required.
• Supervise students before, during, and after school, including possible bus or van duties.
• Communicate with families, attend community events, and support the school’s college-going mission.
• Provide clerical and administrative support for special education activities and lead the classroom when the teacher is absent.
• Participate in professional development, staff meetings, planning, coaching, and daily school-site activities.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Experience working with school-aged children, particularly students with special needs.
• Ability to implement lessons based on state standards, provide assessments, monitor progress, and maintain accurate records.
• Familiarity with or ability to learn IEP documentation, special education reporting software, RTI, co-teaching, collaboration, and small-group instruction.
• Training or familiarity with Applied Behavior Analysis and de-escalation strategies; First Aid and/or CPR certification when necessary.
• Substitute Permit preferred; bilingual Spanish/English proficiency preferred.
