TL;DR
Senior Financial Controller (Xero/WorkflowMax): Managing the day-to-day finance function for a construction and project-based business with an accent on payment claims, job billing, payroll, AP/AR, reconciliations, and month-end reporting. Focus on maintaining accurate data across Xero and WorkflowMax, improving finance workflows, and supporting budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning.

Location: Remote, Metro Manila, Philippines; 15–20 hours per week during New Zealand core business hours. Public holidays follow New Zealand holidays.

Salary: NZD 2,000–2,700 per month.

What you will do

  • Own the day-to-day finance function, including reconciliations, month-end close, financial records, management reports, and financial statements.
  • Prepare and submit construction progress claims and payment claims, manage job-based billing, and follow up outstanding payments.
  • Manage financial processes in Xero and WorkflowMax, keeping job, billing, and accounting data aligned across both systems.
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, bank reconciliations, and payroll processing.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and commercial financial visibility.
  • Improve finance workflows, controls, integrations, and documented procedures as the business grows.

Requirements

  • 4–6 years of experience in financial management, accounting, or a senior hands-on finance role.
  • Strong practical Xero experience and WorkflowMax proficiency.
  • Experience preparing construction payment claims and progress claims, with strong job-based and project-based billing knowledge.
  • Experience with AP, AR, payroll, reconciliations, month-end close, financial reporting, and advanced Excel.
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership of the finance function, and improve systems and processes proactively.
  • Availability for 15–20 hours per week during New Zealand core business hours.

Nice to have

  • Experience in a New Zealand construction, trades, tiling, or project-based business.
  • Experience billing tiling or specialist subcontracting projects.
  • Understanding of New Zealand construction payment claim requirements.
  • Experience with GST, FBT, and year-end account preparation.
  • Background as a Finance Manager, Financial Controller, Management Accountant, or senior-level accountant in a growing SME.
