TL;DR
Modeling and Simulation Engineer (Aerospace): Developing high-fidelity fluid, thermal, and electrical simulation models for EVA spacesuit performance analysis and verification with an accent on NASA Trick, GUNNS, systems engineering, and simulation credibility. Focus on validating models against test data, performing uncertainty and sensitivity analysis, evaluating spacesuit performance, and verifying system requirements.
Location: Houston, United States; generally office-based
Company
develops commercial human spaceflight services, orbital infrastructure, advanced spacesuits, and technology-driven solutions for space exploration.
What you will do
- Develop high-fidelity fluid, thermal, and electrical simulation models for EVA spacesuit analysis and verification.
- Use NASA Trick, GUNNS, nodal analysis methods, and existing simulation frameworks.
- Collaborate with spacesuit subsystem teams to represent life-support component designs and operational details accurately.
- Debug, test, verify, validate, document, and integrate model packages into the broader simulation framework.
- Assess simulation credibility through uncertainty characterization, robustness analysis, and sensitivity analysis.
- Evaluate spacesuit performance, conduct trade studies, verify system requirements, and communicate progress and risks to stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field for Levels II–III; a master’s degree or Ph.D. is preferred for Levels IV–V.
- Experience designing or modeling fluid, thermal, or electrical systems and performing simulation credibility assessments.
- At least 2 years of programming experience with C, C++, and/or Python.
- Experience with simulation software verification and validation activities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presenting technical data to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Export-control screening may be required for access to NASA-, ITAR-, or EAR-controlled technical data; meeting these requirements is a condition of employment.
Nice to have
- ABET-accredited engineering education.
- Experience applying systems engineering principles to simulation frameworks and constituent models.
Culture & Benefits
- Mission-driven work supporting human space exploration and commercial space infrastructure.
- Emphasis on leadership, innovation, teamwork, accountability, technical rigor, and execution discipline.
- Agile project management methodologies are used throughout the project lifecycle.
- Evening and weekend work may be required to meet critical project milestones.
- Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
