TL;DR
Traffic Specialist (Telecommunications): Managing and optimizing international voice traffic routing, carrier relationships, pricing, and deal performance with an accent on service quality, fraud prevention, regulatory compliance, and profitability. Focus on analyzing traffic and QoS metrics, negotiating carrier rates, maintaining dial codes and rate sheets, and resolving routing and service issues.

What you will do

  • Monitor and optimize international voice traffic routing to balance cost, quality, capacity, and availability.
  • Manage relationships, communications, disputes, settlements, and system-change updates with international carriers.
  • Detect and prevent fraud, including IRSF and Wangiri, in collaboration with fraud, revenue assurance, interconnect, and technical teams.
  • Negotiate and manage international voice traffic deals, tracking volume, revenue, cost, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain dial-code databases, carrier rate sheets, pricing sheets, destinations, and routing updates.
  • Analyze QoS, traffic, financial, and service-performance data and provide recommendations to senior management.

Requirements

  • Matric Certificate and a relevant financial, technical, or related tertiary qualification.
  • At least 3–5 years of exposure to carrier services, with experience in contract negotiation and traffic management.
  • At least 2 years of experience in international calling traffic management or a similar routing, analysis, reporting, and monitoring role.
  • Knowledge of network elements, routing principles, VoIP, SIP protocols, and mobile bearer technologies defined by 3GPP, IETF, and GSMA.
  • Understanding of South African and international telecommunications regulations and standards, including ITU-T and GSMA requirements.
  • Strong commercial, analytical, communication, stakeholder-management, problem-solving, and traffic-monitoring skills.
