Director, AI and Agentic Engineering (AI)

Location: Alameda, California, United States; office-based work environment. Travel: up to 10%.

Base salary: $215,000–$306,000 annually, depending on geographic market, qualifications, and experience.

What you will do

• Define and execute the strategy, roadmap, and operating model for enterprise AI platforms and reusable services.
• Lead the architecture and delivery of AI platform capabilities, including agent orchestration, retrieval-augmented generation, evaluation, observability, governance, and integrations.
• Oversee production-grade generative AI, agentic AI, and automation solutions that improve productivity, decision support, and operational efficiency.
• Apply product management practices covering opportunity assessment, prioritization, roadmaps, adoption, value measurement, and lifecycle management.
• Partner with business, data, security, privacy, legal, compliance, architecture, and application teams to deliver governed AI solutions.
• Recruit, mentor, and develop technical staff while establishing engineering standards, documentation, playbooks, and enablement materials.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with 13 years of related experience, master’s degree with 11 years, or an equivalent combination.
• At least 5 years of experience in AI engineering or cloud platform engineering, plus leadership experience overseeing cross-functional teams.
• Experience with the full lifecycle development, validation, and support of cloud-based platforms and solutions.
• Advanced knowledge of AI engineering, generative AI, agentic AI patterns, cloud-native design, enterprise integration, production operations, and responsible AI.
• Hands-on experience with LLMs, prompt and context engineering, tool use, multi-step workflows, vector search, evaluation, monitoring, guardrails, and agent orchestration.
• Experience with AWS, Amazon Bedrock, Databricks Mosaic AI, or equivalent platforms, as well as APIs, data pipelines, identity, secrets management, CI/CD, DevSecOps, and enterprise security.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of life sciences, biotechnology, clinical, regulatory, GxP, SOX, 21 CFR Part 11, or validated system environments.
