New York Program Associate

Location: Fully remote within the United States, with preference for candidates in the Capital Region, Hudson Valley, or within two hours of the Saratoga Springs, NY office. Travel across New York State is required approximately 10–15% of the time, with occasional out-of-state travel.

Salary: $68,000–$73,000 annual salary.

What you will do

• Lead planning and execution of the nine-month New York Farm to School Institute for school teams and farmers.
• Provide technical assistance, coaching, referrals, business planning, production planning, procurement support, and menu-planning guidance to farmers, K-12 schools, and other institutions.
• Develop resources, workshops, trainings, and professional development programs for local food systems stakeholders.
• Build and maintain relationships with farmers, food hubs, processors, distributors, schools, community organizations, and other partners.
• Coordinate the Institute alumni network and support farm-to-school policy advocacy in New York State.
• Develop program evaluation metrics, analyze basic activity data, identify storytelling opportunities, and represent AFT at meetings and conferences.

Requirements

• Strong knowledge of institutional food procurement, local food purchasing, food distribution, agriculture business planning, school food service, farm-to-school programs, farm business technical assistance, or agricultural value chains.
• At least three years of related experience; a BA or BS degree is required, with additional experience or an advanced degree potentially substituting for work experience.
• Experience providing technical assistance, coaching, or resource development to farmers and producers.
• Strong project coordination, communication, meeting facilitation, relationship-building, and public-speaking skills.
• Ability to work independently in a teleworking environment and collaboratively across multiple projects; proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to travel across New York State for partner meetings and farmer and institutional site visits.

Nice to have

• Grant writing, reporting, and budget management experience.
• Experience designing and facilitating educational training programs or managing conferences.
• Experience with public outreach, community engagement, communications, social media, and storytelling.
• Basic program data collection, organization, and analysis experience.
• Intermediate written and verbal Spanish.
