TL;DR
Staff Fullstack Engineer (AI): Building authorization and phishing-resistant authentication for AI agents and the people they act for with an accent on least privilege, secure access, and scalable distributed systems. Focus on making architectural decisions, integrating complex APIs, applying AI across the software development lifecycle, and establishing engineering practices for a new 0-to-1 team.
Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Annual base salary for candidates located in Canada: $160,000–$220,000 USD, plus equity where applicable, bonus, and benefits.

What you will do
- Define authorization models for AI-agent actions and enforce least privilege on behalf of users.
- Build phishing-resistant authentication and authorization for people and AI agents.
- Shape product outcomes by investigating customer needs and turning them into technical solutions.
- Make and defend architectural decisions for distributed systems and complex API integrations.
- Improve development practices through AI adoption, CI/CD, observability, documentation, reliability, and support.
- Raise the technical bar through coaching, architecture leadership, and ownership of product quality.
Requirements
- Ability to work autonomously, handle ambiguity, and help form a new team charter.
- Advanced ability to apply AI tools across the software development lifecycle and evaluate development tooling.
- Proven experience designing scalable backend architectures and integrating complex APIs with modern web technologies.
- Strong understanding of web authentication, authorization, and protection of sensitive user data.
- Deep expertise building reliable, secure, enterprise-grade software in Java or another type-safe language.
- High proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript, fullstack development, and AWS cloud architecture for large-scale services.
Nice to have
- Experience working on a zero-to-one, startup-like team.
- Experience leading a shift in AI adoption, developer tooling, or engineering culture.
- Familiarity with Identity and Access Management tooling.
