TL;DR
MAIT Additive Manufacturing Engineer (Aerospace): Developing, qualifying, and industrializing Laser Powder Bed Fusion processes for mission-critical aerospace hardware with an accent on material characterization, process parameters, and flight-ready component certification. Focus on build preparation, process simulation, manufacturing data analysis, and solving complex quality and production-readiness challenges for propulsion and space systems.

Location: Düsseldorf, Germany; on-site. Relocation assistance is available, including visa sponsorship where applicable.

The Exploration Company develops aerospace technologies for space transportation, including the Nyx Earth and Nyx Moon vehicles.

What you will do

  • Own the manufacturing and qualification of mission-critical flight hardware.
  • Develop, optimize, and qualify Laser Powder Bed Fusion processes for high-performance alloys.
  • Define material characterization campaigns, support testing, and analyze material property and mechanical testing data.
  • Prepare builds, run LPBF process simulations, and analyze process monitoring data.
  • Execute additive manufacturing hardware qualification and certification in line with aerospace requirements, including NASA regulations.
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing challenges, improve process capability and productivity, and author technical documentation with internal teams, suppliers, laboratories, and certification bodies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Hands-on industrial experience with metal LPBF systems and LPBF process development, material verification, and part verification.
  • Knowledge of material characterization methodologies and interpretation of mechanical testing data.
  • Proficiency in CAD for part design modification, LPBF build design, and support generation.
  • Fluent English required.
  • Strong communication, analytical problem-solving, and collaboration skills across multidisciplinary and international teams.

Nice to have

  • 3+ years of experience in LPBF process and hardware qualification for complex aerospace propulsion systems.
  • Strong understanding of DFAM principles, LPBF process physics, and process parameters.
  • Experience with nickel-based superalloys, titanium, copper, stainless steel, or refractory alloys.
  • Hands-on experience with machine operation, metallography, microstructural characterization, and mechanical testing.
  • Experience with Siemens NX, Teamcenter, PLM tools, and additive manufacturing process simulation solutions.
