Lead Data Engineer

Location: Ontario, Canada; remote work indicated by #LI-REMOTE

Salary: $128,200–$133,500 CAD annually

What you will do

• Lead the design, development, optimization, and maintenance of enterprise-scale ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, and Azure Databricks.
• Build scalable data-processing solutions with Databricks, Apache Spark, and Delta Lake.
• Lead complex data engineering initiatives from technical design through production deployment.
• Design dimensional data models and develop SQL scripts, stored procedures, and transformation processes for enterprise analytics.
• Ensure data quality through validation, reconciliation, monitoring, auditing, and automated quality checks.
• Improve platform reliability, scalability, performance, cost efficiency, and operational practices while mentoring engineers and collaborating with technical and business stakeholders.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience in data engineering, data warehousing, or ETL/ELT development.
• Advanced SQL skills, including complex queries, stored procedures, large-scale transformations, optimization, and performance tuning.
• Strong experience with Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Apache Spark, and Delta Lake.
• Strong knowledge of dimensional modeling, Kimball methodology, enterprise data warehouse design, data quality, auditing, reconciliation, and production support.
• Experience with Azure SQL Database or SQL Server, Git-based source control, Azure DevOps, Agile, CI/CD, and automated deployment pipelines.
• Ability to lead complex technical initiatives, mentor engineers, troubleshoot production issues, and communicate effectively with technical and business stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience with Databricks Medallion Architecture, including Bronze, Silver, and Gold layers.
