TL;DR
Platform Engineer, nRF Cloud - Oslo (IoT) (Python/Kotlin/TypeScript, AWS, Kubernetes): Building and scaling the backend platform that monitors, debugs, and updates millions of production IoT devices with an accent on infrastructure, databases, performance, reliability, and security. Focus on designing observable and resilient services, solving high-volume data and scaling challenges, and operating production systems through on-call incident response.

What you will do
- Design, build, ship, and monitor backend platform systems handling data from millions of IoT devices.
- Own platform components end-to-end across infrastructure, databases, performance, reliability, security, and cost.
- Develop production-quality code using Python, Kotlin, TypeScript, AWS, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, and ClickHouse.
- Improve observability with meaningful metrics, logs, alerts, and monitoring instrumentation.
- Participate in on-call operations, respond to incidents, identify root causes, and lead postmortems and follow-ups.
- Write technical documentation and RFCs and collaborate with Product, SDK & Field Engineering, and Support.
Requirements
- 3+ years of software engineering experience and a proven ability to ship production code independently.
- Experience owning features or services end-to-end, contributing to architecture decisions, and debugging production issues.
- Familiarity with AWS services such as EKS, RDS, S3, EC2, and ECS.
- Strong experience with relational databases, especially PostgreSQL, including schema design, query optimization, and operational concerns.
- Backend programming proficiency with Python, Kotlin, and/or TypeScript, plus experience deploying, operating, and scaling workloads on Kubernetes.
- Practical observability and monitoring experience with tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or Sentry, along with strong written and verbal communication.
Nice to have
- Background in IoT, developer tools, or embedded systems tooling.
- Experience building device telemetry pipelines or working with MQTT or CoAP.
- Familiarity with ClickHouse or other columnar and analytical databases for high-volume time-series or event data.
