Principal Systems Engineer (Medical Devices)

Location: Onsite in San Jose, California, United States; applicants must live within a reasonable commuting distance. Relocation is not offered.

Annual salary: $144,400 to $21,600, plus eligibility for an annual bonus.

What you will do

• Establish and refine system-level requirements for new and enhanced medical products.
• Lead system architecture and design, including subsystem partitioning, specifications, and interface requirements.
• Make hardware, software, and mechanical trade-off decisions across clinical performance, safety, cost, reliability, manufacturability, and serviceability objectives.
• Lead system-level design refinement and resolution of cross-functional subsystem performance and interface issues.
• Oversee subsystem integration and verification testing to ensure the complete product meets performance, safety, and cost requirements.
• Document system designs, operating principles, clinical-requirement relationships, and subsystem interfaces while advising engineering teams.

Requirements

• Advanced degree in engineering with training and experience across systems, electronics, software, and mechanical engineering.
• 15+ years of experience developing electronic hardware and embedded software for complex real-time measuring instruments.
• 10+ years of systems engineering experience leading architecture and systems engineering for complex real-time medical instruments.
• 7+ years leading systems engineering for multiprocessor systems combining analog/digital electronics and embedded real-time software.
• Experience with biomedical signal acquisition and processing, embedded real-time software, RTOS, power supplies, displays, batteries, data storage, and wireless communications.
• Experience developing medical devices under FDA and European Community regulations and standards, plus project management experience.
