TL;DR
Senior AI Platform Backend Engineer (Node.js/TypeScript/AWS): Building and supporting scalable backend services, REST APIs, and cloud-native systems for enterprise AI and knowledge management platforms with an accent on secure access to enterprise knowledge, production reliability, and maintainable architecture. Focus on designing distributed services, enhancing a Node.js and TypeScript CMS, contributing to Python-based AI services, and monitoring complex production systems.
Location: St. Louis, Missouri, United States; hybrid schedule with three days per week in person, including one Monday and one Friday.

What you will do
- Design, build, deploy, monitor, and support production backend services.
- Develop and maintain REST APIs for content management, retrieval, and integrations.
- Enhance a proprietary CMS built with Node.js and TypeScript.
- Contribute to Python-based services supporting AI applications.
- Build reusable services and patterns that improve scalability and developer productivity.
- Partner with AI engineers, architects, and product teams to deliver secure and reliable solutions.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience and a record of shipping enterprise-grade production software.
- Strong Node.js and TypeScript experience, including API development, error handling, REST APIs, and backend services.
- Production experience with AWS and working knowledge of Python.
- Understanding of software architecture, system design, distributed systems, CI/CD, automated deployment, and Agile development.
- Experience with Git, code reviews, logging, monitoring, observability, secure coding, authentication, API security, and OWASP fundamentals.
- Must be able to work on a W-2 basis only; C2C and 1099 arrangements are not accepted.
Nice to have
- Experience with content management, document processing, or knowledge management platforms.
- Experience supporting RAG or AI-enabled applications and event-driven architectures.
- Experience with AWS Lambda, ECS, SQS, S3, Terraform, OpenTelemetry, or Grafana.
- Familiarity with OAuth, IAM, modern authentication patterns, or regulated and security-conscious environments.
- AWS certifications.
