Senior AI Platform Backend Engineer (AI)

Location: St. Louis, Missouri, United States; hybrid schedule with three days per week in person, including one Monday and one Friday.

What you will do

• Design, build, deploy, monitor, and support production backend services.
• Develop and maintain REST APIs for content management, retrieval, and integrations.
• Enhance a proprietary CMS built with Node.js and TypeScript.
• Contribute to Python-based services supporting AI applications.
• Build reusable services and patterns that improve scalability and developer productivity.
• Review code, troubleshoot production systems, and collaborate with AI engineers, architects, and product teams.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience and a record of shipping enterprise-grade production software.
• Strong experience with Node.js, TypeScript, REST APIs, and backend services.
• Production experience with AWS and working knowledge of Python.
• Understanding of software architecture, system design, distributed systems, CI/CD, automated deployment, logging, monitoring, and observability.
• Knowledge of secure coding, API security, authentication, and OWASP fundamentals.
• Ability to work on a W-2 basis only; C2C and 1099 arrangements are not accepted.

Nice to have

• Experience with content management, document processing, or knowledge management platforms.
• Experience supporting RAG or AI-enabled applications.
• Experience with AWS Lambda, ECS, SQS, S3, Terraform, or infrastructure as code.
• Experience with OpenTelemetry, Grafana, event-driven architectures, OAuth, IAM, or modern authentication patterns.
• Experience in regulated or security-conscious environments and AWS certifications.
