Member of Technical Staff (AI)

Location: Remote; the Frontier Data team is headquartered in San Francisco, with optional work from company hubs, home, or coworking spaces.

Salary: $150,000–$300,000 base per year, depending on experience and performance.

What you will do

• Design and build reinforcement-learning environments, evaluations, and datasets targeting high-value gaps in frontier model capabilities.
• Develop internal platforms and infrastructure for running hundreds of thousands of tasks with high throughput, reproducibility, and observability.
• Collaborate with researchers and engineers at leading AI labs to scope dataset development against model roadmaps.
• Build grading harnesses, metrics, and automated checks to measure environment and dataset quality.
• Prototype quickly and harden successful solutions into production systems.
• Contribute to open-source projects when it accelerates the broader community.

Requirements

• Strong generalist engineering background and comfort working on ill-defined problems at the frontier of AI.
• Practical experience with agents, evaluations, or reinforcement-learning workflows.
• Strong technical background and written communication skills.
• High agency and a bias toward action.

Nice to have

• Experience with computer vision or multimodal models.
• Prior experience working with an AI lab as a data or evaluation partner.

• The take-home exercise involves producing a delivery plan covering scope, quality bar, staffing, timeline, and risks.
