TL;DR
Radiation Effects Engineer (Aerospace): Developing and executing radiation test campaigns for satellite avionics hardware with an accent on electrical test setups, laboratory measurements, and detailed test analysis. Focus on designing production-quality test racks and PCBAs, automating data collection in Python, and qualifying hardware for harsh space-radiation environments.

Location: Los Angeles, CA; travel of up to 25% of the year is required to support radiation tests. The role involves access to ITAR-controlled information and items; the hire must be a U.S. person or otherwise eligible for a federally issued export-control license.

Salary: $100,000–$150,000 per year plus company equity.

Company

hirify.global develops and mass-produces high-power satellite platforms for commercial, national security, and science missions from LEO to deep space.

What you will do

  • Execute complete radiation test campaigns covering SEE, TID, DDD, and materials testing.
  • Coordinate test facilities and schedules, design electrical setups, write procedures, run tests, and document results.
  • Design, fabricate, and assemble production-quality test racks, test PCBAs, cable harnesses, and connectors.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and modify electronic components, assemblies, and systems.
  • Conduct electrical measurements and checkouts using oscilloscopes, programmable power supplies, DMMs, SMUs, logic analyzers, and DAQs.
  • Develop Python scripts for test automation, data collection, and analysis; schedule radiation testing across the hardware and vehicle lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related STEM field, or 3+ years of experience assembling, integrating, and testing electrical aerospace hardware.
  • At least 1 year of radiation-effects testing experience, including TID and SEE testing with proton, heavy-ion, gamma, neutron, or other radiation sources.
  • Strong electrical engineering fundamentals and the ability to select measurement methods, instrumentation, and test setups for voltage, current, timing, and digital I/O.
  • Experience using standard electrical laboratory equipment to characterize signals.
  • Availability to travel up to 25% of the year and a valid driver’s license are required.
  • U.S. person status or eligibility for a federally issued export-control license is required for access to ITAR-controlled information and items.

Nice to have

  • Radiation-effects knowledge for semiconductor devices and mitigation of common failure modes.
  • Circuit, PCB, fixture, test-rack, FPGA, or microcontroller-based test-system design experience.
  • Soldering, crimping, cable-harness assembly, and electrical schematic review experience.
  • Experience developing modular test automation software and drivers in Python, Linux, C++, Rust, or related tools.
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, structured-test-process, and communication skills.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work on high-power satellite platforms designed for missions from LEO to deep space.
  • Fast-paced Series C space-startup environment with multiple launches planned through 2026 and 2027.
