Firmware Design Engineer (Embedded C)

Location: Predominantly site-based in Stockport, United Kingdom, with occasional home working where appropriate. Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK; visa sponsorship is not available.

Salary: £45,000–£50,000 per year

Well-established electronics manufacturing company designing and manufacturing electronic products on site.

What you will do

• Develop embedded firmware for new electronic products using Embedded C and microcontroller-based systems.
• Integrate firmware with hardware and support board bring-up and system integration.
• Develop and test real-time embedded applications.
• Debug firmware, identify faults, and support verification and validation.
• Work with communication interfaces and protocols.
• Support products through prototyping, development, and manufacture while contributing to firmware architecture and design reviews.

Requirements

• Commercial experience developing embedded firmware for electronic products.
• Embedded C and microcontroller-based development experience.
• Experience with firmware debugging, testing, and hardware/firmware integration.
• Product development experience across the development lifecycle.
• Existing UK right to work is required; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• STM32 or PIC experience.
• RTOS, ThreadX, or USBX experience.
• TCP/IP and USB communication experience.
• Experience with IAR Embedded Workbench, STM32CubeIDE, or C#.
• Comparable microcontrollers, RTOS platforms, or embedded development environments.
