TL;DR
Expression of Interest: 2D Animation Design Artists (2D Animation): Creating production-ready character, environment, prop, vehicle and background artwork for 2D animated series and films with an accent on established show styles, visual development and production fundamentals. Focus on taking designs from rough exploration through final turnarounds, layouts and painted backgrounds while meeting quotas, deadlines and review requirements.

Location: Sydney, New South Wales, with full-time in-studio or hybrid options for local artists. Remote-friendly roles are open to artists anywhere, with some overlap required during Sydney business hours.

hirify.global is an independent animation studio producing family-focused 2D and 3D feature films and television series.

What you will do

  • Design characters from early exploration through production-ready turnarounds, expressions and poses.
  • Develop environment and location themes, moods, colours and key backgrounds.
  • Create hero and set-dressing props, vehicles, painted turnarounds and functionality breakdowns.
  • Map emotional and lighting arcs through colour keys for final background painting.
  • Translate designs and boards into camera-ready background layouts and paint layouts through to final backgrounds.
  • For lead roles, guide design language, distribute work and maintain quality, pacing and consistency across local and offshore teams.

Requirements

  • Strong, clearly presented portfolio in character, prop, environment, colour or background design.
  • Ability to take work from rough exploration through final, production-ready artwork.
  • Strong fundamentals in shape language, form, proportion, perspective, colour and composition.
  • Ability to learn and faithfully replicate an established show style.
  • Comfort working to quotas and deadlines within a production pipeline, communicating proactively and responding to feedback and revisions.
  • Collaborative attitude with the ability to work autonomously when needed.

Nice to have

  • Previous experience on animated series or films.
  • Adjacent experience in illustration, comics, concept art or games.
