What you will do

• Build, manage, develop, and lead the Toronto AI research team.
• Drive high-impact research that influences Samsung product roadmaps and future business opportunities.
• Present research findings internally and externally and serve as a thought partner to executive, cross-functional, and business leadership.
• Advance innovation programs and technology pathfinding across artificial intelligence, perception, reasoning, and language understanding.
• Represent the AI Research Lab’s advanced technology capabilities externally.
• Lead university technology collaborations and long-term innovation partnerships.

Requirements

• PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or equivalent education, training, and experience.
• 10+ years of post-PhD experience leading advanced AI research.
• Deep expertise in vision, multimodal AI, agentic AI, autonomous agents, reasoning, decision-making, image and video processing, and generative AI applications.
• Strong record of publishing peer-reviewed research at leading conferences and journals, including CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, AAAI, IJCAI, ACL, SIGGRAPH, or CoRL.
• Strong algorithmic problem-solving and programming skills in C/C++, Python, Java, or similar languages.
• Hands-on experience with deep learning libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX, plus strong communication, presentation, collaboration, and leadership skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with GPUs, parallel programming, and simulation environments.
• Experience in Android development and graphic rendering.
• Strong relationships with entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, industry executives, and technology thought leaders.
