TL;DR
Gender Officer (Gender Equality and Humanitarian Programmes): Supporting gender mainstreaming, gender assessments, monitoring, reporting, and partner capacity strengthening across humanitarian programmes in Syria with an accent on gender-responsive programming, protection, and work with vulnerable populations. Focus on analysing gender-related needs, developing gender action plans, training local actors, and coordinating with partners and humanitarian stakeholders.

Location: Deir Alzour, Eastern Hub, Syria; on-site

What you will do

  • Support gender mainstreaming and gender-transformative interventions across WASH, FES, and other programmes.
  • Conduct gender, vulnerability, and multisector needs assessments, identifying priorities for women, girls, and other vulnerable groups.
  • Develop gender action plans and support gender-responsive indicators, sex- and age-disaggregated data, monitoring, learning, and reporting.
  • Conduct field visits, review partner documentation, collect feedback, and report gender-related findings, GBV data, lessons learned, and case studies.
  • Provide technical accompaniment, training, coaching, and capacity strengthening for staff and implementing partners.
  • Coordinate with local authorities, women's rights organisations, UN agencies, and humanitarian actors; represent the Gender Team when delegated.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in gender or development studies, social science, or a related discipline with at least 3 years of experience, or a relevant diploma with at least 5 years of experience.
  • Experience in gender, GBV, protection, and social work, including work with IDPs, refugees, returnees, and other vulnerable populations.
  • Experience in the humanitarian or development sector and with international organisations such as INGOs or UN agencies.
  • Experience training local actors on gender equality and applying gender-sensitive tools and standards.
  • Ability to communicate and write reports in English, consolidate formal English documentation, and translate documents into Arabic or English.
  • Understanding and sensitivity to poverty, gender, diversity, inclusion, and safeguarding issues.
