Staff Engineer (DevX/AI)

Location: Fully remote for candidates based in Australia, New Zealand, or the US West Coast only

What you will do

• Own the end-to-end developer experience for approximately 80 engineers across CI, build tooling, codebase health, deployment paths, and AI-assisted development.
• Lead the goal of doubling R&D output per engineer and develop meaningful productivity measurements.
• Stay hands-on by shipping production changes across multiple languages, services, and unfamiliar codebases.
• Build credibility and relationships across engineering teams, gain buy-in, and remove roadblocks without direct management responsibility.
• Evaluate, roll out, measure, and continuously improve agentic coding tools.

Requirements

• Strong production software engineering background with continued hands-on coding experience.
• Experience in platform engineering or leadership of AI and developer tooling initiatives within an engineering team.
• Evidence of measurably improving engineering team productivity and experience working at meaningful scale.
• Fluency with agentic coding tools and sound judgment about when to trust, correct, or override them.
• Strong influence and relationship-building skills, with the ability to lead without direct reports.
• Comfort working with ambiguity, imperfect productivity signals, experimentation, and sensible risk.

Nice to have

• Deep CI/CD experience, especially untangling and speeding up slow pipelines.
• Experience in a high-performance engineering environment.
• Broad experience across multiple languages and technology stacks.
• Experience instrumenting and reporting on developer productivity.
