Software Engineer - Infrastructure (AWS)

Location: San Francisco, CA; New York, NY; Portland, OR; or remote within Canada or the United States

Salary: US employees: $122,400–$158,400 USD annually; Canadian employees: $115,700–$149,700 CAD annually

What you will do

• Build and evolve Mercury’s infrastructure platform for the growing engineering organization.
• Develop secure-by-default, observable-by-default platform features for human engineers and AI agents.
• Maintain networking, container orchestration, and AWS infrastructure supporting product teams.
• Deliver infrastructure projects, break down complex initiatives, and help define infrastructure strategy.
• Create detailed RFCs, technical specifications, and documentation for complex infrastructure systems.
• Collaborate with product engineers to debug production issues and improve system usability and reliability.

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience with AWS.
• Strong knowledge of Linux, file systems, containers, and other low-level operating-system foundations.
• Interest in cloud-native open-source technologies and comfort contributing code upstream.
• At least 2 years of experience creating detailed technical documentation, RFCs, and technical specifications.
• Ability to write code and investigate complex infrastructure problems.

Nice to have

• Experience operating in regulated environments such as HITRUST or SOC 2.
• 2+ years of experience working with large-scale Terraform environments maintained by many engineers.
• Experience building an infrastructure platform from scratch.
