Director of Data, Payments (Fintech)

Location: Cardiff, London or remote within the UK, with occasional meetings in London. Relocation to the UK is supported, and visa sponsorship is available.

Salary: £150,000–£200,000 base salary per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Enable high-impact decisions across the Payments function and wider Data discipline.
• Co-drive Payments strategy and product decisions with Product and Engineering.
• Identify commercial optimisation opportunities across pricing, commercialisation, investment and customer growth.
• Set the Payments data strategy, operating model, priorities, architecture, technical debt and key metrics.
• Translate between technical, product and commercial perspectives to guide decisions.
• Build and scale a high-performing team of data professionals accountable for product and business outcomes.

Requirements

• Experience driving payments innovation and product strategy in a fast-growing business.
• Deep data expertise combined with strong product and commercial judgement.
• Ability to work across detailed metrics, architecture, customer strategy, pricing and business outcomes.
• Experience growing and leading a full-stack data team covering Data Science, Analytics Engineering, Machine Learning Engineering and Analytics.
• Empathetic people leadership with the ability to build trust, raise performance standards and retain talent.
• Experience collaborating with senior stakeholders across Product, Engineering, Design, Marketing, and risk and control functions.

Hiring process

• Approximately 30-minute recruiter call.
• One-hour initial interview with a senior data leader.
• Four-interview loop covering a technical exercise with an engineer, behavioural assessment and leadership interviews.
