What you will do
- Research, author, and maintain patch metadata for third-party Windows applications.
- Track software releases, security updates, version changes, and end-of-life dates using vendor sources, changelogs, and CVE/NVD advisories.
- Map releases to structured metadata, including version strings, download URLs, detection logic, and installation parameters.
- Document and validate silent installation switches, reboot behavior, and exit codes for MSI, NSIS, InnoSetup, WiX, and other installer types.
- Test patch installations in sandbox environments and verify detection logic after installation.
- Research registry and file-based detection methods and support detection-before-install, supersedence, and deployment workflows.
Requirements
- 4–5 years of experience in Windows systems administration, patch management, or software packaging.
- Strong knowledge of Windows internals, including the registry, file system, installation scopes, environment variables, and PATH management.
- Hands-on experience with WSUS, SCCM/ConfigMgr, Ivanti, , Chocolatey, or equivalent patching tools.
- Experience manually installing and repackaging MSI/EXE software and using msiexec.exe switches.
- Understanding of MSI/WiX, NSIS, InnoSetup, and Squirrel silent installation mechanisms.
- Ability to trace installation artifacts to Windows registry keys, including 32-bit and 64-bit registry views.
Nice to have
- Experience maintaining software patch catalogs with Adaptiva, Chocolatey, ManageEngine, or similar tools.
- Knowledge of Windows Installer internals, including product codes, upgrade codes, and component tables.
- Knowledge of ARM64 Windows distribution and multi-architecture software packaging.
- Understanding of Windows Update infrastructure, including WUA, WSUS, and CBS/SFC.
- Scripting experience with Python or PowerShell.
