Software Architect - Control Systems (f/m/d) (Grid Automation): Defining software architecture for critical grid control solutions across backend, frontend, data, and deployment layers with an accent on scalable, secure, highly available real-time systems. Focus on Linux-based virtualized and containerized platforms, OT cybersecurity, enterprise integrations, and energy automation standards.
Location: Zagreb, Croatia or Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Flexible working times and home office opportunity.

What you will do
- Define and own software architecture for grid control system solutions across backend, frontend, data, and deployment layers.
- Design scalable, secure, and highly available real-time architectures on Linux-based platforms, including virtualized and containerized environments.
- Establish architecture principles, technology standards, and reference models for development teams.
- Govern integrations with enterprise applications and third-party platforms, including interfaces and data models.
- Evaluate technologies and platform options, lead proof-of-concepts, and provide make, buy, or partner recommendations.
- Mentor development teams through architecture reviews, technical documentation, security-by-design practices, and technical decision records aligned with IEC 62443.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Extensive experience in software architecture and development, including distributed, highly available, real-time or near-real-time systems.
- Deep knowledge of Linux, networking, system-level design, virtualization, and security hardening.
- Experience with SQL/NoSQL and time-series databases, message-oriented middleware, microservices, and API design.
- Hands-on programming experience with C++, Java, or C#, including prototyping and senior-level code reviews.
- Fluent English communication skills required. Knowledge of OT cybersecurity, secure development lifecycles, and energy automation standards is required or strongly relevant.
Nice to have
- German language skills.
- Experience with IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-104, CIM/IEC 61968/61970, or OPC UA.
