Data Scientist (Fraud Detection)

Location: Remote in Canada

Salary: $175K–$250K annually, plus equity.

What you will do

• Develop and implement machine learning and statistical models for fraud detection and prevention.
• Analyze large datasets to identify fraudulent patterns, trends, and anomalies.
• Design fraud detection systems and processes with engineering, product, and operations teams.
• Evaluate, optimize, and update models as fraud tactics change.
• Communicate data analysis and model performance results to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Maintain data privacy and security compliance across fraud detection and analysis activities.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, or a related field, focused on fraud prevention or anti-money laundering.
• Proficiency in Python.
• Strong knowledge of machine learning algorithms and statistical techniques.
• Experience processing large datasets with distributed systems such as Apache Spark or Dask.
• Experience with data cleaning, data quality, data transformation, and large-scale feature engineering.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and independent collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Cloud development experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• MLOps experience.
• Experience in fintech, marketplaces, or financial services.
• Knowledge of current fraud tactics and experience with fraud detection tools and systems.
