Staff+ Software Engineer, Platform Portability (AI)

Location: San Francisco, CA; New York City, NY; or Seattle, WA. Staff are expected to work from one of the offices at least 25% of the time, with some roles requiring more office attendance. Preference is given to candidates based in New York, Seattle, San Francisco, or the Bay Area.

Annual salary: $405,000–$485,000 USD

What you will do

• Design and build provider-agnostic abstractions for storage, messaging, connectivity, and multi-cloud service operations.
• Build tooling that enables internal teams to provision, configure, and operate services across cloud providers through a consistent interface.
• Own the delivery of Claude on partner cloud platforms, including build, release, and validation pipelines.
• Develop native cloud integrations, debug platform issues, and collaborate with cloud partners and internal Compute, Inference, and Security teams.
• Shape multi-cloud engineering patterns through design reviews, technical guidance, mentoring, and cross-team alignment.
• Participate in on-call rotation and improve incident response through postmortems and runbooks.

Requirements

• At least 8 years of experience building and operating production distributed systems.
• Experience owning large-scale infrastructure systems and leading ambiguous, cross-team technical projects from design through production.
• Experience running production workloads across multiple cloud providers, including migration or abstraction work.
• Knowledge of cloud IAM, VPC peering, private connectivity, service mesh, ML infrastructure, and supporting interconnects.
• Production programming experience in Python, Go, Rust, or another general-purpose language, plus Kubernetes and Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform or Pulumi.
• Availability to work from a designated office at least 25% of the time; visa sponsorship is available for eligible roles and candidates.

Nice to have

• Experience shipping software through hyperscaler marketplaces or managed-model platforms.
• Background in security, compliance, data residency, regulated environments, or sovereign clouds.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, and experience.
