TL;DR
Team Lead Data Engineering (Big Data): Building and operating reliable data platforms, data lakes, warehouses, and batch and real-time pipelines with an accent on scalability, data quality, security, and regulatory reporting. Focus on leading and mentoring data engineers, designing cloud-first systems with AWS, Kafka, Spark, and Kubernetes, and optimizing data processing for performance and cost-efficiency.
Location: On-site in Malta; relocation support is provided

What you will do
- Lead, coach, and mentor a Data Engineering team.
- Oversee the design and operation of mission-critical batch and real-time data pipelines.
- Ensure scalability, performance, SLAs, and end-to-end data quality across the Data Platform.
- Translate business requirements into technical specifications and delivery plans with Product Managers, Architects, and stakeholders.
- Drive security, compliance, automation, optimization, and operational excellence across data engineering.
- Contribute to the Data Department roadmap and strategic improvement initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Information Technology, or a related quantitative field.
- At least 2 years of experience managing large-scale data projects and leading data engineering teams.
- Experience with AWS Redshift, S3, EMR, Airflow, Kafka, Spark, Iceberg, and Hudi.
- Strong ETL/ELT engineering and data modeling skills, including OpenSearch or Elasticsearch.
- Strong coding skills in Java, Scala, or Python, with experience in Linux, containers, Kubernetes, and cloud-first production systems.
- Strong stakeholder management, negotiation, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
