Team Lead Data Engineering

Location: On-site in Malta; relocation support is provided

What you will do

• Lead, coach, and mentor a Data Engineering team.
• Oversee the design and operation of mission-critical batch and real-time data pipelines.
• Ensure scalability, performance, SLAs, and end-to-end data quality across the Data Platform.
• Translate business requirements into technical specifications and delivery plans with Product Managers, Architects, and stakeholders.
• Drive security, compliance, automation, optimization, and operational excellence across data engineering.
• Contribute to the Data Department roadmap and strategic improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Information Technology, or a related quantitative field.
• At least 2 years of experience managing large-scale data projects and leading data engineering teams.
• Experience with AWS Redshift, S3, EMR, Airflow, Kafka, Spark, Iceberg, and Hudi.
• Strong ETL/ELT engineering and data modeling skills, including OpenSearch or Elasticsearch.
• Strong coding skills in Java, Scala, or Python, with experience in Linux, containers, Kubernetes, and cloud-first production systems.
• Strong stakeholder management, negotiation, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
