What you will do
- Apply agricultural science to improve predictive systems and identify opportunities for new products.
- Translate biological understanding into hypotheses that can be evaluated with data and machine learning.
- Guide model development and interpret model behaviour to keep predictions biologically realistic.
- Design and conduct scientific investigations to improve model performance and product capabilities.
- Define new measurements, datasets, validation protocols, and data requirements for model training and evaluation.
- Collaborate with machine learning engineers, software engineers, product managers, data operations, customer-facing teams, and external researchers.
Requirements
- MSc or PhD in Agricultural Science, Agronomy, Animal Science, Plant Science, or a related discipline.
- Significant experience applying agricultural science to real-world problems and a strong understanding of grazing systems and agricultural production.
- Experience designing, conducting, and interpreting scientific investigations.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex scientific concepts to multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to influence technical decisions through expertise rather than authority.
- Ability to work on-site in Auckland, New Zealand.
Nice to have
- Experience with data science, predictive modelling, machine learning applications, or large datasets.
- Experience in agricultural technology or precision agriculture.
- Experience in a commercial technology company or startup.
- Scientific publications, recognised technical contributions, or relationships within the agricultural research community.
- Familiarity with remote sensing, sensor technologies, digital agriculture, software engineering, or product development.
