TL;DR
Senior Systems Engineer (Spacecraft): Leading the technical delivery of complex spacecraft systems from concept and architecture through operations and deorbit with an accent on system architecture, requirements traceability, and mission assurance. Focus on MBSE, system-level verification and validation, FMECA and FDIR strategies, and coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams across the spacecraft lifecycle.

Location: Hybrid roles based in Athens, Greece; Barcelona, Spain; Porto, Portugal; or Coimbra, Portugal. Applicants must have the legal right to work in their chosen location.

What you will do

  • Lead the technical delivery of spacecraft systems from concept and architecture through operations and deorbit.
  • Own system-level architecture, performance, reliability, requirements, margins, and lifecycle traceability.
  • Plan and execute system-level verification and validation, resolving technical issues across mission phases.
  • Perform system analyses, trade studies, design optimisation, and develop MBSE methodologies and tools.
  • Define FMECA and FDIR strategies while embedding resilience, fault tolerance, and appropriate system margins.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams and act as the systems interface across AIT, mission management, operations, suppliers, and external partners.

Requirements

  • Strong systems engineering capability across the full lifecycle of space missions and spacecraft development.
  • Deep knowledge of spacecraft subsystems, including power, OBC, AOCS, communications, propulsion, and thermal/mechanical systems.
  • Proficiency with MBSE tools and structured systems engineering methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of requirements management, verification and validation, margins management, and mission assurance.
  • Knowledge of FMECA, FDIR, CONOPS, and resilient spacecraft system design principles.
  • Legal right to work in the chosen role location is required. Applications must be submitted in English.

Nice to have

  • Awareness of frequency allocation, debris mitigation, export control, and insurance considerations.
  • Experience supporting bids, customer engagements, technical reviews, and operational decision-making.
  • Experience mentoring junior systems engineers and promoting engineering best practices.
