Backend Engineer (Go/Cybersecurity)

What you will do

• Design and build backend features and services for a phone scam disruption product.
• Maintain and modernise production systems, including legacy Perl services and an internal TypeScript UI.
• Own system reliability, performance, security, operational stability, and incident prevention.
• Investigate incidents, identify root causes, implement long-term fixes, and resolve scaling bottlenecks.
• Collaborate with engineering teams and cross-functional stakeholders to design and deliver solutions.
• Support product discovery through customer-fit analysis and hands-on proof-of-concept development.

Requirements

• Experience developing and maintaining production backend systems, ideally with Go or a similar backend language.
• Relevant experience in phone scams, telecoms, messaging systems, fraud, anti-abuse, or an adjacent domain.
• Experience with SQL databases such as MySQL or MariaDB, including schema design and complex query optimisation.
• Experience with Git or similar version control systems and CI/CD pipelines.
• Ability to work independently, take ownership of services, and respond proactively to operational incidents.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, with openness to using AI tooling in software development.

Nice to have

• Experience with Perl, TypeScript, Docker, Kubernetes, Puppet, or other containerisation and configuration management technologies.
• Experience with large or long-lived production systems.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity, cybercrime, ML/LLM classification, telecoms, VoIP, SIP, SMPP, or number routing.
