Software Engineer, Backend (Fintech)

Location: Milan, Italy — hybrid, with three days per week in-office

Salary: €45,000–€53,000 gross per annum

What you will do

• Own the full lifecycle of product stories, from intake through production release.
• Develop and maintain backend services for fee calculations, invoicing, payout orchestration, and settlement flows.
• Build compliance and reporting solutions for periodic reviews, risk assessments, and transaction reporting.
• Perform technical analysis and implement robust, scalable backend solutions in Java.
• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, incident resolution, and root cause analysis.
• Create technical documentation and collaborate with stakeholders across the organization.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong experience with Java and foundational knowledge of cloud platforms.
• Fluent English in written and spoken communication.
• Interest in or experience with financial systems, including billing, invoicing, payouts, or settlements.
• Clear professional communication, ownership, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
• Commitment to working in the hybrid model with three office days per week in Milan.

Nice to have

• AWS experience.
• Previous experience in fintech.
