Forward Deployed Software Engineer (Japan Government)

Location: Tokyo, Japan; hybrid workplace with regular in-person collaboration and travel to client sites required

What you will do

• Work directly with government customers to understand complex operational problems and design data-driven solutions.
• Own the end-to-end execution of high-stakes projects in small teams with minimal supervision.
• Discuss architecture, work with large-scale data, and build custom web applications.
• Collaborate with engineers, product teams, Deployment Strategists, customer executives, and other stakeholders.
• Establish technical and project strategy while making independent decisions in a rapidly changing environment.

Requirements

• Proficiency in both English and Japanese is required.
• Security clearance or the ability to obtain security clearance.
• At least 1 year of relevant post-college work experience.
• Strong engineering background, preferably in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Physics, or Data Science.
• Strong programming skills in Python, Java, C++, TypeScript, JavaScript, or similar languages.
• Willingness to travel to client sites as needed; 25–75% travel may be required.
