Hardware Architect (Robotics): Defining and delivering the system architecture for cognitive humanoid robots from concept through mass production with an accent on compute, power, communication, sensing, and manufacturability. Focus on partitioning complex cyber-physical systems, integrating real-time control and AI inference requirements, and governing reliable, testable hardware platforms at scale.
Location: On-site in Metzingen / Riederich, Germany

develops cognitive humanoid robots and is scaling its platform from prototypes to high-volume production.
What you will do
- Define and maintain the top-level hardware architecture for cognitive robot platforms, including compute, power, communication, and sensing systems.
- Translate product, performance, and safety requirements into hardware requirements and partition functionality across electronics, embedded software, and mechanical subsystems.
- Lead architecture reviews and establish hardware standards, interface control documents, and design rules across electronics, firmware, and mechanical teams.
- Select platform components such as compute SoCs, power-management ICs, communication controllers, and sensor ICs while balancing performance, availability, cost, and scalability.
- Integrate hardware architecture with software and AI requirements, including memory bandwidth, I/O, compute capacity, and real-time control.
- Drive design for manufacturing, reliability, testability, and cost, while mentoring senior engineers and supporting hardware team growth.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- 8+ years of hardware development experience for complex embedded or cyber-physical systems, including 3+ years in a hardware architecture, lead engineer, or staff engineer role.
- Experience delivering multidisciplinary hardware architectures from concept through EVT/DVT and production.
- Strong knowledge of embedded compute platforms, power-system architecture, real-time communication backbones, and functional safety requirements.
- Experience with design for manufacturing and design for testability in high-volume hardware production.
- Fluent English required; German is a practical advantage.
Nice to have
- PhD in a relevant engineering field.
- Experience in robotics, automotive ADAS or body electronics, aerospace, or industrial automation hardware.
- Knowledge of EtherCAT, CAN-FD, TSN Ethernet, SpaceWire, or similar real-time distributed-system protocols.
