Sr. SCADA/HMI Platform Engineer

Location: Research Triangle Park, NC, initially; the role is expected to move to Benson, NC after completion of the new facility. Regular production-floor presence is required. Must be a U.S. Person due to access to U.S. export-controlled information or facilities.

What you will do

• Lead the selection and own the SCADA, historian, and visualization platform for a 1 million square foot manufacturing facility expansion.
• Define tag and UDT structures, alarm philosophy, HMI style standards, historian collection, faceplates, and store-and-forward reliability.
• Design redundant supervisory server architecture and distributed plant-network integrations across manufacturing equipment, building management, utilities, and QC lab systems.
• Review and accept OEM- and system-integrator-delivered HMI/SCADA screens and configurations during Factory and Site Acceptance Tests.
• Develop OEE, downtime, plant-status, alarm-performance, and data-acquisition interfaces to improve operational visibility, safety, and reliability.
• Direct platform proofs of concept, establish environments for site acceptance testing, and coordinate integrator configuration work.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, automation engineering, mechatronics, or a related field.
• 7+ years of direct industrial automation and SCADA/HMI engineering experience.
• Hands-on experience programming and commissioning Siemens, Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, and Ignition HMIs and/or PLCs.
• Architecture-level ownership of a major SCADA platform, including platform evaluation, licensing, redundancy, and data-access decisions.
• Experience with ISA-18.2 alarm management, high-performance HMI design, and industrial communications including EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, EtherCAT, OPC UA, and MQTT/Sparkplug.
• Must be a U.S. Person and able to work regularly on the production floor, including wearing required PPE and working in hot, humid, or noisy environments.

Nice to have

• Experience in heavy industrial, greenfield, chemical, or metallurgical manufacturing.
• Production experience with multiple major SCADA platforms and platform selection, migration, or consolidation leadership.
• Redundant or high-availability SCADA deployments in 24/7 manufacturing environments.
• Python, C++, REST APIs, or other enterprise integration and automation technologies.
• Experience in regulated defense, aerospace, or automotive industries.
