TL;DR
Senior Platform Engineer (Kubernetes/Java): Designing, deploying, and operating production-grade platform infrastructure including Kubernetes clusters, VPCs, compute pools, storage, networking, and managed messaging systems with an accent on cloud-native architecture, security, reliability, and infrastructure automation. Focus on building high-level infrastructure abstractions, maintaining 99.9% uptime, improving change success rates, and setting engineering standards for shared services.

What you will do
- Design, deploy, and operate platform infrastructure including VPCs, compute pools, storage, Kubernetes clusters, and networking.
- Monitor and operate managed publish/subscribe messaging systems such as Kafka.
- Build infrastructure abstractions that translate high-level service requirements into secure, highly available production deployments.
- Maintain platform infrastructure at 99.9% uptime, manage infrastructure changes, and drive a change success rate above 95%.
- Partner with Cloud Operations on infrastructure-as-code modules and improve operational practices through incident learning.
- Set technical standards for code reviews, controller patterns, GitOps, infrastructure-as-code consumption, and operational runbooks while mentoring junior engineers.
Requirements
- Experience operating production Kubernetes and cloud-native infrastructure.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and hands-on Java experience.
- Deep Kubernetes expertise and confidence with the Linux command line.
- Strong knowledge of networking and cloud architecture, including VPCs, subnets, load balancing, security, and service mesh interactions.
- Hands-on experience with Terraform and GitOps tools such as Argo CD or Flux, plus production incident response and on-call work.
- Experience with GCP, with AWS or Azure experience preferred, and a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Nice to have
- Experience designing and operating shared services infrastructure at scale.
- Familiarity with Kafka and the operational characteristics of publish/subscribe messaging systems.
- Experience with service mesh patterns and their infrastructure implications.
