Staff Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in the Santa Clara, CA office; in-office attendance is required Mondays and Wednesdays each week.

Salary: $160,000–$200,000 annual base salary, plus equity.

What you will do

• Build and ship production multi-agent systems, including control loops, planning, orchestration graphs, tools, handoffs, state, and durable execution.
• Design a safe write-back path for applying agent decisions to customers’ live systems without corrupting data.
• Create evaluations, rubrics, and regression tests to measure agent quality and reliability.
• Design persistent account memory, retrieval, pre-computation, and just-in-time lookups for concurrent agent instances.
• Harden agents against adversarial customer data and integrate frontier LLMs through a model-agnostic abstraction.
• Own cost, latency, reliability, and reusable patterns that help the engineering team build agents faster.

Requirements

• 4+ years building production systems, including 2+ years shipping LLM-powered or agentic systems.
• Experience shipping customer-facing LLM or agent systems used by real customers and diagnosing and fixing their failures.
• Strong, current Python skills; TypeScript or Go is a plus.
• Hands-on experience with agent frameworks or orchestration, tool and function calling, structured outputs, RAG, and context or memory management.
• Strong systems-engineering fundamentals in concurrency, distributed systems, statefulness, latency, and cost at scale, plus the ability to debug non-deterministic multi-step agent traces.
• High agency and the ability to scope, prioritize, and ship independently.

Nice to have

• Experience with Salesforce APIs such as Bulk 2.0, Composite, and Pub/Sub, or another large enterprise data source.
• Knowledge of MCP, A2A, or similar interoperability standards; evaluation and observability tools such as Promptfoo, Braintrust, or Langfuse; and durable execution tools such as Inngest or Temporal.
• Experience running hundreds or thousands of concurrent agent instances, implementing multi-tenant data isolation with Postgres and RLS, and maintaining a strong customer-data security posture.
• Founder or founding-engineer experience, or contributions to open-source agent or LLM tooling.
